So, I am having a bit of an SCA identity crisis since I stepped down as Seneschal. I’ve been trying to determine what I wanted to do – or how to resolve this. I somehow got it stuck in my head that a Quest would be a good thing. So, for the last few days I have been pondering what sort of quest might be applicable. I mean, I have the other quests that I am now able to work on – for my persona. That is an awesome thing for me, and I am looking forward to diving in to it. But that isn’t the end of what I want. I find it hard to sit at events and work on a project, write, or do what I consider research. I feel that I should be out doing something, not just sitting somewhere.
So, I thought. And thought. And pondered. Wandered the web. I looked for inspiration. I looked for ideas. I honestly did not find much. So, I have to rely mostly on my own brain.
I decided that I don’t want to have just one question to ask, that I would like to have a ‘bank’ of 3 or so to ask that can get me a wide range of information.
The most obvious question is, “What does service mean to you?” But I do not think this goes as deep as I would like. I have also thought of asking, “What is one piece of advice you would give to another member?” While the second one is likely better suited for those who are new, I’m sure that there things I could learn.
That still leaves me with a few questions to determine. I would like to start this at the Coronation of Maynard and Liadain on April 20th. I have a girdle book which has seen precious little use, and think this may be a great opportunity to make use of it. I just need to figure out what questions I want to have in the bank to ask…
If you have any ideas – I would love to hear them.
